You can tell when someone has a forced smile and their heart is not into helping others. I did not see this once on any of the faces of the employees at the RiverPlace Hotel. I was surprised when leaving my room and walking down the hallway, I saw a maid and said good morning. She replied a cheerful good morning back and even remembered my name! That was a nice surprise! I just love this hotel. The staff is top notch, probably the best I have ever experienced, and I am a VERY frequent traveler. I brought my wife April for the first time to see the hotel because I am always raving about it. She was treated very, very well by the staff. Now she sees why I love the RiverPlace. Also, you have an awesome happy hour menu and terrific prices. The bar keep is a really fun guy and the front lobby/valet staff, goes out of his way. Your front desk help is exceptional and always makes me feel so welcome and so much at home. One thing though...I get a funny feeling that you are going to start charging for Internet access at the front lobby. I just love that you have those little office supplies and computers and color printers for guests. Perhaps some people may have abused this, I don't know. But I really just love this little extra. It is so convenient to run back to the hotel throughout the day or evening or before and after dinner to check my email. Please keep this service. This is one little extra that in my view, really makes it special. If need be, then make the area accessible only through a room key or some other measure to keep non-guests, out. But keep this for the paying guests, it is a great feature. The apples and cookies are also a terrific little extra and the coffee in the lobby in the mornings is very nice as well. It almost has a B&B, home-style feel, but with the privacy of a large hotel. I just really love your hotel, your location, your staff, your feather beds, your fireplaces in the lobby, all the little extras I mentioned below, and to top it all off, it is your exceptionally-well trained staff that pull this all together. In many hotels the staff resets your room to their standard setting. When I changed the temperature of the thermostat and opened the curtains, they left them. I liked not having to reset the room to my liking each day. On the first day the valets asked if I wanted the top on my car since it was cold, I told them I would just turn up the heater. The next day, they already had the heater on for me. Remembering my preference was appreciated. -RiverPlace, 05/06

Let me begin by saying that I specifically requested that I receive this survey. Next, I would like to point out that my indications of consistent highest marks are not casual or by accident. I did not simply check off the high marks. My stay in Portland was exceptional! As a conference participant, I called to make my reservations and was greeted with a wonderful reservation process. When I landed in Portland, I decided to take the Max into town and then walk to the hotel. I called and was provided clear directions, while also being provided alternative options (taxi or bus routes). Further, after arriving at the hotel, and throughout my stay, the front desk & concierge staff was exceptional! There is one item on which I would like to provide specific additional feedback. Your practice of providing the amenities such as the business center and the movies at no charge is a first class touch. I cannot begin to tell you how irritating it is to pay $100-$200-$300 for a room and then be charged an additional $2 for a copy or $10 for an hour of computer time. In closing, let me make my point in the most effective way possible: the next time I am in the great northwest, you can rest assured that I will do everything within my power to stay in a Larkspur Hotel! I was very impressed with the staff. The decor and ambiance were great, but staff really makes the difference. Front desk staff went out of his way to prepare maps for us of the wine regions. There were so many great things, but I only wish when we checked in, they would have asked if we would have liked an appointment at the spa.
